We recognise that good quality design is about much more than what a building may look like and should also concern the creation of sustainable places and communities and how they work. We understand that the quality of people’s lives is influenced by the spaces around them so we ensure that on all our new developments we have accommodation that is well designed and that matches the specific requirements requested.

Consultation

Consultation is a central part of our work. We always strive to go that bit further to enable stakeholders to take a real part in the process of developing the buildings and spaces we propose. We make sure people are connected to what we do, through flyers, meetings, consultation websites and local media. And students are encouraged to get involved too – understanding what it is they need for their future.

Partnerships

Our Partnerships with students, colleges, universities, communities and other companies are for the long-term.

Through our partnerships we learn more about what makes a good project and that helps us with key decision making.

A good example of using partnership to enhance our approach is when local residents advised  us of  problems with lighting and the night-time  environment around Hampton Street. We  therefore ensured that we began working with Safer Streets so that we could find long term solutions that would assist and help the local area.

Sustainability

Alumno are taking a lead on sustainability – when we plan and design how our buildings will work we prioritise carbon and waste reduction. It’s in everybody’s interest that we ensure a long-term low carbon space that’s not only efficient but  also  enhances the  initial build and fit-out.

We look at the BREEAM rating for our buildings, which measures reducing carbon emissions, managing water and specifying materials with a low environmental impact. Alumno also support the concepts of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) – which prioritises the reduction of waste and greater efficiencies when building.
